cgr pix-san lotaro label 150x250Los Angeles, August 3, 2010 – Ever heard of A.J. Fernandez?

He's the 31-year-old whiz kid who has created outstanding cigars for some of the biggest names in the industry, including the hot-selling Diesel and Man O’War brands for retail giant Cigars International in his Nicaraguan factory.

Now he will debut his own brand, to be distributed by Cigar Express in the U.S., at next week's International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association convention and trade show in New Orleans: San Lotano.

There is a family connection to the brand for Fernandez, a third-generation cigarmaker. "San Lotano has been a project many years in the making for me, and it is made to honor the tradition of cigar making that I learned from my father and my father's father. The blends are extremely rich, flavorful and are the culmination of my family’s knowledge which has been accumulated over the last century."

The brand originated with Fernandez's grandfather in San Luis, Cuba, but has not been made in decades. It will debut in four sizes, with 20 cigars per box and three wrapper styles:

• Churchill: 7 inches by 52 ring;
• Robusto: 5 inches by 52 ring;
• Toro: 6 inches by 52 ring;
• Torpedo: 6 1/2 inches by 52 ring.

The three blend styles include:

• Connecticut: medium-bodied with an Ecuadorian-grown wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Dominican, Honduran and Nicaraguan filler leaves.

• Habano: full-bodied with a Brazilian wrapper, Honduran binder and Dominican, Honduran and Nicaraguan filler.

• Maduro: box-pressed and medium-to-full in body with a Mexican wrapper, Honduran binder and Dominican, Honduran and Nicaraguan filler.

Pricing is planned to be quite accessible, at $6.00-8.00 per cigar, not including local taxes. It will be one of the cigars to be watched for at the show.
