Cigars

  • Mild:

  • Macanudo Gold Label (Dominican Republic)
Delicate, elegant and creamy with just the barest hint of spice, this is a marvelous and accessibly-priced cigar that will suit anyone looking for a mild taste, perfect draw and a uniform, easy burn.
  • Mild:

  • Casa Toraño (Honduras)
More mild-to-medium in body, but with luscious buttery flavors and a dash of spice on the finish. Excellent construction and a pretty band.
  • Medium:

  • Arturo Fuente (Dominican Republic)
Brilliantly made and full of flavor, also an excellent value in the Gran Reserva line. The Hemingway line is also great, but more expensive.
  • Medium:
    Davidoff Special Series (Dominican Republic)
Perfect construction, high in price, but one of the greatest names in cigars, sure to please even the fussiest connoisseur. A classic.
  • Medium:
Romeo y Julieta 1875 (Dominican Republic)
The 1875 is well made, has a rich, caramelized flavor and dates back to 19th Century Cuba. The tubed Rothchilde, Clemenceau and Churchill sizes make great gifts in boxes of 10.
  • Full:

  • Aurora Preferidos (Dominican Republic)
Beautiful perfectos mirror the original 1903 line and come in a choice of wrappers and gorgeous metallic tubes: gold, platinum, ruby, sapphire! The six-cigar sampler is a winning gift.
  • Full:

  • Cohiba Black (Dominican Republic)
Wonderful caramelized sweetness from the jet-black Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper. Consistent and easy to smoke; expensive, but once you light up, you’ll know it’s worth it.
  • Full:

  • Puros Indios (Honduras)
The standard blend is an outstanding value, beautifully made and wonderfully rich in a caramelized style. Penny-for-penny, maybe the best cigar in the world.
  • Value:

  • JM’s Dominican (Dominican Republic)
Stunning value in either the Connecticut or Sumatra-wrapped versions. Loads of rich, caramelized taste at $1.70 before local taxes on a Churchill! Yowsah!
  • Value:

  • Roly (Honduras)
Made with mixed filler left over from the sensational Puros Indios line, these mixed-fill cigars burn perfectly and mimic the rich flavor of their siblings for about $1 apiece. Golf, anyone?

Special Occasion Cigars:

  • Birth Cigars:

  • Arturo Fuente Brevas
    Ashton Crystal No. 1 Tubos
    Bering Imperial Tubos
    Davidoff Special R Tubos
Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Tubos
No longer reserved for inexpensive, machine-made cigars, here are five top-drawer handmade brands with “It’s a Boy” or “It’s a Girl” models.

Most are corona sized (about 5 1/2 x 42) but the Davidoff is a 50-ring Robusto
  • Personalized cigars: Branded

  • Macanudo Gold Label (Dominican Republic)
Special double-banded versions of these brands are offered by Payless Cigars of New Orleans, Louisiana. The second band can carry two lines of 13 characters each and you can buy as little as one box. Delivery takes three weeks.
  • Personalized cigars: Unbranded

  • Macanudo Gold Label (Dominican Republic)
Thompson will apply two lines of 18 characters each to any of nine existing band designs, or you can submit your own. The cigars are long-filler, Dominican made and available in four sizes. You also get to choose your packaging: box or humidor! Takes three weeks.

Accessories:

  • Ashtray:

  • The Mollino by OneOff
For the man who wears Italian-made suits and drives an Italian-made car, an Italian-made portable ashtray that fits in his pocket. Amazing.
  • Ashtray:
    Stinky Cigar Ashtray
A giant bowl for when friends come over and you don’t want to spend the evening emptying the ashtray. It’s stainless steel and will last forever; the three cigar rests can hold up to an 80 ring!
  • Case:

  • Any leather case
Brands aren’t important here. Choose brown or black, but be sure that if the case has “fingers” that they will accommodate no less than a 52-ring cigar. Three-finger cases fit well in suit pockets.
  • Lighter carry case:
    TranzPack by Colibri
The TranzPack (abour $15 each) can be used with filled, butane lighters! TSA rules allow up to two butane lighters in your airline checked baggage if in a TranzPack!
  • Travel humidor:
    Perfecto XLT
Cedar-lined with room for eight sticks up to 8 x 56 each in a virtually-unbreakable ABS plastic case. Humidification device and hygrometer included! For about $20, it’s like a broken drum: you can’t beat it!
