Page 1 of 2 Picking out a gift that will be appreciated by any smoker from novice to connoisseur, part 1Los Angeles, December 3 – Picking out the right gift for a friend or even for yourself is often as complex as the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. But if you’re looking for a cigar gift for the holidays, here are some suggestions that are sure to please and impress anyone who fancies himself (or herself) a connoisseur; from least expensive to more expensive: La Aurora Treasure Sampler: This is an exquisite set of five cigars, one each of the five different blends in the elegant Aurora Preferidos 1903 Edition line from the La Aurora factory in the Dominican Republic. Each style is represented by its tubed version: the original Cameroon-wrapped version in a “Platinum” color tube; the Brazilian Maduro in “Ruby”; Connecticut Shade in “Sapphire”; the Dominican Corojo in “Gold” and the Ecuadorian Sun Grown in “Emerald.” All of the cigars are five inch-by-54 ring perfectos and are offered at a retail price of $68.00, not including local sales and tobacco taxes. Even if the recipient isn’t as familiar with the Aurora Preferidos as you are, he or she will be mighty impressed with the finish and style of the perfecto-shaped cigars in their richly-finished perfect-shaped tubes! • Ashton 10-cigar Sampler: Made at the Tabacalera A. Fuente, the Ashton lines are among the best anywhere. Promoted with considerable dignity by Ashton distributors, the 10-cigar sampler provides a tasting of each of the five most popular Ashton lines. There are two each of the five styles – Ashton Classic, Aged Cabinet, Aged Maduro, Heritage Puro Sol, Virgin Sun Grown – with two different sizes offered for each brand. They are presented in an elegant wooden case for $90.00 each, not including taxes. Although the brand is not as well known to cigar novices as some others, any experienced smoker will treasure receiving this gift. • Montecristo Seleccion: Certainly the world’s most famous cigar brand has to be represented and Altadis U.S.A. has an excellent, and reasonably-priced Montecristo sampler. The Montecristo Seleccion offers eight cigars representing almost the entire range of the standard Montecristo line: the No. 1 (6 1/2 x 44), No. 2 (6 x 50 torpedo), No. 3 (5 1/2 x 44), Churchill (7 x 50), Double Corona (6 1/4 x 50) and Robusto (5 x 50), plus two tubed cigars: the Tubo (6 x 42) and the Grande (7 x 50). It’s attractively boxed and costs $93.60 at retail, plus local sales and tobacco taxes. How can you go wrong with Montecristo? • C.A.O. “The Sopranos” Limited Edition: This is a hard-to-find, limited-edition item that’s perfect for anyone who enjoys cigars and “The Sopranos.” It’s a gorgeous case with five commemorative cigars inside that are really more collector’s items than cigars for smoking. The cigars are themed to the show and include one cigar shaped like a champagne bottle, two shaped like a baseball bat (for obvious uses) and two cigars that are shaped like a whisk broom and flare out to a ring gauge of 86 at the bottom. That size is a tribute to the 86 episodes of the show that were produced. |
