GIVING A GIFT OF CIGAR “THINGS”Part 2 of our early guide of holiday gifts for the cigar lover of your choice!

Los Angeles, December 5 – Finding the right gift for that cigar someone can be a difficult task. Beyond the cigar selections we noted on Monday, there are plenty of accessory items from the hand-held to the floor-standing that are worth considering. We note some of our favorites here, listed in ascending order of price:

ZippoBLU lighter:
There are plenty of torch lighters to choose from, including excellent models from Blazer – the pioneer in the torch-lighter field – and Colibri, among others. But Zippo is Zippo.

The ZippoBLU line is new for 2007 and is a clever cross between its famed fluid lighters and the familiar spark wheel and today’s standard torch flame. Zippo created a new ignition system for the butane-fueled BLU line and it’s the only torch lighter which is lit by a spark wheel. Ignition system failures are the biggest worry in torch lighters, so you might ask whether the BLU will work. No worries there, because the BLU is backed by the Zippo guarantee, in effect since 1932: “It works or we fix it free.”

There are twelve different models, from the elegant and basic Dusted Chrome (pictured above) that retails for about $48 up to the Gold Tuxedo or Golden Hologram models, priced at about $70.

Library Editions:
Lew Rothman at J-R Cigars is one of the most innovative packaging designers in the cigar trade. He’s created all sorts of wild boxes for cigars, including the stunning “Ammo Box” that uses empty 30-caliber ammunition boxes to hold cigars.

His “Library Edition” boxes, introduced in 2004, re-created an old Cuban novelty concept, offering cigars in a box which looks like a book and can be stored on a bookshelf. Rothman even offered specially-made bookshelves for that purpose.

The program is in the process of being discontinued and you’ll have to outfit your library soon before they’re gone. Each box holds 20 cigars and you have a choice of 15 brands: Bolivar, Bolivar Cofradia, El Rey del Mundo, Excalibur, Flor de A. Allones, H. Upmann, Hoyo de Monterrey, La Gloria Cubana, Macanudo, Montecristo Afrique, Partagas, Punch, Ramon Allones Reserve, Temple Hall and Trinidad, offered in several different sizes. Prices range from $69 per box up to $99, while supplies last. Just be sure you have enough space left on your bookshelves!

Montecristo Steak Knife set:
This isn’t really a cigar accessory unless you plan to use a steak knife for a cutter. But if you like Montecristo – or its famous crossed-sword logo – and want a set of top-quality, 10-inch, serrated steak knives made from German 440C-grade steel, this is for you.

The knives have weighted handles and come in an impressive black wood case with individual slots for each knife. It’s an impressive gift and where available, retails for $150.00.

If you’ve already got the steak knife set, there’s a new Montecristo cutlery set with five kitchen knives of different sizes, a kitchen shears and a sharpening blade. It also comes in a special case and retails for $110.00.

Journey to the Chateau de la Fuente:
A joint project of the Tabacalera A. Fuente and Prometheus International, this isn’t a collection of cigars so much as a collector’s set which includes cigars.

At the heart of the package are four outstanding Fuente Fuente Opus X cigars, with a special souvenir book about the Chateau de la Fuente farm and a unique CD containing 16 original tunes from acclaimed jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval.
