Page 2 of 2 First issued in 2004, it’s a special chest of 22 Fuente Fuente Opus X cigars that are sold in individual cedar coffins. In addition to the standard-production shapes, a series of odd and specially-created shapes is added, making this much more of a collector’s item than a box of cigars that will actually be smoked. In addition, more than $400,000 will have been raised for the Foundation when the 2007 edition sells out.
The Opus 22 is marketed by Southern California-based Prometheus International, which sent out a note apologizing for two errors in the packing of the 2007 chests. The first was that a maduro-wrapped version of the famous BBMF perfecto (with a fantail head) was supposed to be included, but in fact a natural-wrapped BBMF was packed in the boxes. A substitute BBMF – in maduro as promised – will be sent to retailers by the second week of January. Buyers of Opus 22 collections (which retail for $750.00 each) are asked to contact the tobacconist from which they purchased the chest to receive the replacement cigar.
The other error was in the packaging for the Opus X Scorpio, a fat robusto. Although the correct cigar was included in the 2007 collection, the coffins are stamped with “FFOX Double Robusto.” In fact, the Double Robusto is the size specification for the Scorpio, so only the name is wrong on the coffin.
Even though the Opus 22 collection comprises only 500 chests annually, it takes more than a month to package the cigars correctly. Let’s give credit to Prometheus for acknowledging the errors because . . . it’s never the crime, but always the cover-up which leads to trouble.
And the winner is: Congratulations to Anthony Montgomery of Las Vegas, Nevada, winner of our “Register & Win” drawing for a Montecristo Cigar & Pen sampler from our Perelman, Pioneer & Company humidors, courtesy of Mike’s Cigars.
Up for your pleasure this week is an elegant box of 25 Baccarat “The Game” Havana Churchills from the folks who make Camacho cigars in Honduras. These are mild-bodied, sweet cigars that are quite popular and easy to enjoy anytime. Made from all Honduran-grown tobaccos, these cigars come in the classic Churchill size of seven inches and 48 ring gauge. They’re provided courtesy of our friends at Mike’s and will be awarded in our drawing to be held on Sunday, December 30.
To enter, just click on the “Register & Win” tab above and fill out the required information. If you have entered in the past, there is no need to re-enter; all past entries are carried forward to future drawings. You must be 21 or older to win; good luck! ~ Rich Perelman
