Cigar makers will also introduce more one-off blends, special editions, limited editions and regional specialties – like the Tatuaje Havana VI Verocu No. 1 (west) and No. 2 (east) – to create new interest and trial without having to create and promote an entire new brand.

Also, the Davidoff of Geneva folks are creating an interesting series of store tiers, which will receive different levels of merchandise. The Davidoff-branded stores will have specific store brands that only they carry. Davidoff’s Appointed Merchants carry the Davidoff White Label line and all other Davidoff brands. Select Merchants will carry a special mix of Avo, The Griffin’s and Zino and so on. Will other large distributors begin doing the same?

A couple of steals, a couple of deals:
Since there isn’t a lot of action on prices this week, we have not updated our Comparison Shopper spreadsheet, but we’ll be back in the saddle next week.

In the meantime, however, Mike’s Cigars does have a reader’s-only special on this week, offering a free, four-cigar holiday sampler of Alec Bradley cigars with the purchase of any box at extra-reduced prices. The sampler includes one each of the Alec Bradley MAXX, Trilogy Maduro, Trilogy Cameroon and Occidental Reserve Double Broadleaf Maduro. There are six brands on sale:

  • Alec Bradley MAXX in 3 sizes at 10% off retail;

  • Occidental Reserve Maduro in 4 sizes at up to 37% off retail;

  • Pryme Gold in 3 sizes at up to 43% off retail;

  • Trilogy Cameroon or Corojo in 3 sizes at up to 29% off retail;

  • Trilogy Maduro in one size at 29% off retail.

    Click here to take advantage of this unique, readers-only special. Our thanks to Mike’s for this terrific offer; you can buy as many of these box-plus-sampler specials as you like until 9 a.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, January 8, or until supplies run out.

    Other deals we liked:

    Superior Cigars:
    A nice sale of the popular C.A.O. line, but with a terrific bonus: a C.A.O. Cubist Ashtray (retail of $120) thrown in for good measure:

    • C.A.O. Brazilia, with a free ashtray:

    > Cariocas (4 x 38), in a box of 50 retails for $99.00, now $77.95, best in our survey;

    > Gol! (5 x 56), in a box of 20 retails for $105.00, now $81.95;

    > Samba (6 1/4 x 54), in a box of 20 retails for $125.00, now $91.95.

    • C.A.O. Criollo Conquistador (6 1/8 x 52), in a box of 20 normally retails for $145.00, now $103.25, or try the Mancha (5 5/8 x 46), usually retails at 20 for $130.00, now $95.95.

    • C.A.O. Cx2 Beli (7 x 56), normally $207.00 for 20, now $154.95.

    • C.A.O. l’Anniversaire Maduro:

    > Belicoso (6 x 54), 20 normally $148.00, now $104.95;

    > Churchill (6 7/8 x 48), 20 normally $140.00, now $99.95;

    > Tubo No. 1 (5 1/2 x 46), 20 normally $134.00, now $95.95.

    And the winner is:
    Congratulations to Jeff Goldman of Duxbury, Massachusetts, winner of our “Register & Win” drawing for a free box of Baccarat “The Game” Havana Churchills from our Perelman, Pioneer & Company humidors, courtesy of Mike’s Cigars.

    Up for your pleasure this week is another fantastic Montecristo Cigar & Pen Sampler, with five different Montecristo robustos – one each of the classic Montecristo, then Montecristo Classic, Montecristo Platinum, Montecristo Serie C and Montecristo White Label – and an elegant Montecristo rollerball pen with a hidden cigar punch! It’s provided courtesy of our friends at Mike’s and will be awarded in our drawing to be held on Sunday, January 6.

    To enter, just click on the “Register & Win” tab above and fill out the required information. If you have entered in the past, there is no need to re-enter; all past entries are carried forward to future drawings. You must be 21 or older to win; good luck!

    Did you know?

    Although the preferred humidity setting for cigars is 70%, temperature control of 70-75 F is equally important.
