THE PERFECT HOME HUMIDOR! Print E-mail

Los Angeles, January 16 – Every connoisseur dreams of having his own screening room or wine cellar or the perfect smoking room with a giant humidor.

At least as to the smoking room, your dreams can now be realized!

The famed Swiss humidor masters, Michel Perrenoud, S.A., have developed a compact walk-in humidor, which while designed primarily for hotels and cigar bars which have separate smoking rooms, could fit nicely in a dedicated living room or smoking cellar in a home.

The initial installation is in the elegant Lausanne Palace Hotel in Lausanne, Switzerland, in the new Lausanne Habana Club. It’s a special salon within the hotel dedicated particularly to cigar smoking and with a private membership roster, although hotel guests may also be able to use the space under certain conditions.

The space is small, but Perrenoud was able to place a magnificently-finished, modular humidor of about 10 feet square and 10 feet tall (3.0 meters, to be exact) in one corner. This particular model includes 30 lockers for club members to use, but that space could just as easily be used for open shelves to easily store more than 10,000 cigars, plenty to drink and a very large plasma television! Perrenoud spokesman Bernard Simonet noted in an e-mail message that such a unit could easily be installed in a home and simply requires access to power for lighting and a continuous water supply for humidification. Naturally, the modular walk-in unit has complete humidity control and the temperature in the hotel is maintained at a constant level already.

Want one? They aren't cheap, but quality never is. Simonet wrote that the unit in the Lausanne Palace cost about 90,000 Swiss Francs, which at today’s horrible exchange rates, is about $82,383 U.S.! That does not include the price of shipping from Switzerland or installation, of course.

It's Perrenoud's latest advancement in the humidor art, which is saying something considering their past creations, such as the "humidor chair" and a desktop humidor which locks automatically and can only be opened by a fingerprint scanner such as those used on laptop computers!
