ImageFive-pack values galore; time to try new brands!

Los Angeles, January 22 – It’s a busy time for cigar retailers, starting the new year with specials to get you back in the buying habit.

One of the better tactics adopted in the last few years has been the sampler pack, usually a package of five cigars created by the retailer by breaking up boxes of 20 or 25. It’s a great way to try a new brand without committing to a whole box, and a great way to save money.

Some manufacturers also pack some of their cigars in smaller boxes, which can be great gift items. Mike’s Cigars is offering readers of this site a special this week on just such a box: Punch Café Royales (5 5/8 inches by 45 ring gauge) offered in glass tubes in a velvet-lined box of eight!

The box retails for $32.90, but is now available at 49% for $19.95! Click here to take advantage of this unique, readers-only special. Our thanks to Mike’s for this terrific offer; you can buy as many of these specials as you like until 9 a.m. Eastern time on Monday, January 27, or until supplies run out.

AtlanticCigar.com:
It isn’t easy to think of a Rocky Patel brand as “under the radar” but his Olde World Reserve is quite nice, full-bodied and loaded and flavor and finesse. Better yet, it’s priced for trial . . . at least for now:

  • Camacho Liberty 2007 (6 x 56), in a box of 20 for $280.00, best in our survey.

  • Dunhill Aged, in the familiar white box, a marvelously balanced, slightly spicy cigar, well-priced in samplers of five:

    > Altamira (5 x 48, in aluminum tubes), five for $43.00;

    > Cabrera (7 x 48, in tubes), five for $50.00 or try

    > Samana (6 1/2 x 38), five for $29.00.

  • Kahlua Petit Corona (4 x 38), a nicely-made flavored cigar, in a box of 40 was $105.60, now $96.95, best we have seen.

  • Miura Directo de Fabrica, a not very well known brand made in Esteli, Nicaragua with a lot of flavor and bargain priced. Golf, anyone?

    > Robusto (5 x 50), in a box of 100 for $180.00;

    > Toro (6 x 54), 200 for $187.50.

  • Montecristo, at nice prices for the Grande Tubos (7 x 50 in aluminum tubes), in a box of 10 was $75.00, now $70.50 or try the Double Corona (6 1/4 x 50), in 25s was $145.00, now $142.50.

  • Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve, a little under-appreciated compared to the other Rocky Patel blends, but worth discovering:

    > Robusto (5 1/2 x 54), in Corojo or Maduro, wrappers, in a sampler of five was $47,25, now $40.00, or try 10 for $60.00;

    > Toro (6 1/2 x 52), Corojo or Maduro, five was $56.25, now $50.00 or 10 for $75.00;

    > Torpedo (5 x 54), Corojo or Maduro, five was $47.25, now $40.00 or 10 for $60.00.

    BestCigarPrices.com:
    Fans of cigars with plenty of flavor will be happy about these two specials:

  • Camacho Corojo Diploma (5 x 50), in a box of 21 was $169.95, now $151.95;

  • Montecristo Robusto (5 x 50), 25 was $135.95, now $133.95, best in our review.

    Famous Smoke Shop:
    Nick Perdomo’s Cuban Parejo line was a favorite of those who wanted a big ring gauge, but a blend which had character, but wasn’t overpowering. Its star has faded, but the cigars are still terrific and Famous has a great deal on a favorite size:

  • C.A.O. Brazilia, in samplers of five; if you haven’t tried this popular brand, what are you waiting for?

    > Amazon (6 x 60), five was $32.00, now $31.99;

    > Ipanema (7 x 50), five was $28.99, now $27.99;

    > Lambada (6 x 50), five was $28.99, now $27.99;

    > Samba (6 1/4 x 54), five was $29.99, now $27.99.

  • C.A.O. Gold, perhaps the best of all the C.A.O. blends, also nicely priced in samplers of five:

    > Churchill (7 x 50), five was $24.99, now $23.99;

    > Corona (5 1/2 x 42), five was $19.99, now $18.99;

    > Corona Gorda (6 1/2 x 50), five was $23.99, now $22.99;

    > Double Corona (7 1/2 x 54), five was $27.99, now $26.99

    > Torpedo (6 1/4 x 52), five was $26.99, now $25.99.

  • Cuban Parejo Corona Gigante (7 1/2 x 56), in the box of 20 was $80.99, now on sale for $55.95! Wow!

  • La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero No. 700 (6 1/2 x 60), in a box of 20 for $106.99, lowest in our review.

    Habana House:
    The Tatuaje brand is very well known, but its sidekick – Cabaiguan – is not as high in profile, but is a quality cigar nonetheless. The Guapo (5 5/8 x 54) is on sale now, in a box of 24 for $179.95, best in our survey. Also:

  • Padron 1964 Anniversary Series with nice prices in three sizes:

    > Imperial (6 x 54), with natural wrappers in boxes of 25 for $314.95;

    > Principe (4 1/2 x 46), with maduro wrappers, in 25s for $189.95 and

    > Torpedo (6 x 52), with maduro wrappers, 20 for $269.95.

    Mike’s Cigars:
    Mike’s is going wild on five-pack prices, with reductions across their entire inventory. The deals we liked include:

  • Camacho Corojo Figurado (6 x 54), five for $28.50.
