JOYA DE NICARAGUA PICKS DREW ESTATE Print E-mail

Distribution of Joya de Nicaragua products will continue to be handled by S.A.G. Imports through Friday, April 25, 2008 and the Drew Estate distributorship will begin after that date.

Martinez Cuenca noted “For seven years, we have been working with SAG as our distributor in the U.S., and I must say it clearly and loudly: it has been a gratifying experience having had the opportunity to work together with Sr. Manuel Quesada and his team; they are all wonderful people.”

For their part, Quesada and S.A.G. will be introducing a new cigar of their own this spring that will take the place of the full-bodied Joya de Nicaragua lines in their portfolio of blends. S.A.G. is best known for the Fonseca brands made at Quesada’s MATASA factory in the Dominican Republic. The new line will be manufactured in Honduras and likely debut at this summer’s International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association trade show in Las Vegas.

Connoisseur’s festival in Havana slated for April:
It’s not anywhere near the size of the Festival del Habano, Cuba’s annual extravaganza celebrating its cigars, but the much smaller and more intimate Encuentro de Amigos de La Casa del Habano Partagas will hold its 16th edition from April 21-25.

The annual event commemorates the 1993 opening of the first Casa del Habano store in Cuba itself, inside the famed Partagas factory at 520 Industria Street in central Havana.

The four-day event includes a trip to tobacco fields, a tour of the Cayo Levisa resort area in the Pinar del Rio district of western Cuba, lots of cigar tastings and a closing banquet.

And the winner is:
