ImagePlus: New Black Pearl champagne debuts to accompany its cigar line!

Los Angeles, April 10 – Short and wide cigars become all the rage during the Cigar Boom and the robusto, at five inches line or so and 50 ring gauge replaced the 42-ring corona as the default size of choice for many American smokers.

With more and more restrictions placed on where people can smoke, the need for even shorter cigars has become apparent and now the Oliva Cigar Co. has taken the concept to its logical extreme with the introduction of its new Nub brand.

Oliva’s Ovi Guerra explains that the Nub line “is a concept that seeks to deliver only that most enjoyable part of the cigar.

“The idea for the Nubs came from the theory that a cigar finds its ‘sweet spot’ at the 3 1/2- 4 inch point. All ‘nub’ cigars must exist within this window. No “nub” is longer than 4 inches. Further adding to this complex theory, the ring gauges range from 56-66. The result is a range of smokes that have the same amount of tobacco as any Churchill or even Presidente. Unbelievably, they also smoke as long.”

So what are these cigars? Extremely fat and extremely short, offered in three styles and six sizes:

  • 354, a 3 5/8-inch long cigar with a ring gauge of 54!

  • 358, a 3 5/8-inch by 58 ring cigar;

  • 460, a 4-inch by 60-ring cigar;

  • 464, an amazing 4-inch by 64 ring torpedo! (pictured above)

  • 466, a 4-inch by 66-ring, straight-sided cigar, and

  • 466+, a 4-inch by 66-ring box-pressed torpedo!

    Remember that a 64-ring cigar has a diameter of one inch, to the 464 and 466 are a full inch or more thick! The 464, 466 and 466+ are easily the shortest cigars available in the U.S. with a ring gauge of 64 or more, fully 20 percent shorter than the 5-inch by 64-ring Las Memorias Cubana Gordos. A chart created by Oliva indicates that expected burn times for these cigars ranges from 38 minutes for the 354 Connecticut to a stunning 74 minutes for the 466 Habano!

    That is the key to the smoking profile of this and the density is the reason why each size burns so slowly. The binder and filler leaves for all of the Nub series is grown in Nicaragua, but there are three different styles, each using a different wrapper:

  • “Cameroon” (white label), from Cameroon itself, offering a medium-bodied presence and presented in the 354, 358, 460, 464 and 466+ sizes;
