Vogel uses the Bull’s-Eye Ligero method on his Fundacion Ancestral line of cigars made from leaves grown from seeds developed by the Cuban Land institute in the 1940s. Three lines are now available, each in four shapes: Vuelta Abajo 1940, Pinar del Rio 1941 and Artemisa 1944. Two new lines will be introduced at the IPCPR show in July in Las Vegas: Santa Clara 1943 and Remedios 1942. More Rocky Patel cigars at Famous Smoke Shop: Like most major manufacturers, Rocky Patel makes his own lines and makes cigars for others, often with his name on it. He’s now created his seventh line for national retail giant Famous Smoke Shop of Easton, Pennsylvania, but this one does not carry the Rocky Patel name. It’s called Conuco and features a Honduran-grown Habano wrapper around a Nicaraguan Seco binder and a four-nation interior blend with leaves from Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. It’s medium to full in body and has elements of sweetness. It’s offered in four sizes at value prices of $4.20 to $4.80 per cigar in packs of five and boxes of 20. In addition to Patel’s own Vintage, Sun Grown and The Edge lines, Famous offers the Rocky Patel American Market Selection, Rocky Patel Cuban Blend, Rocky Patel Factory Seconds, Rocky Patel Factory Selects (another seconds line), Rocky Patel Honduran Classic and Rocky Patel Rosado lines. Philippine cigar fest has 331-foot cigar! The annual tobacco festival in Candon City, Philippines finished last week with the production and parade of a 100-meter long (about 331 feet) cigar! News reports from the festival indicated that the cigar was rolled by 10 women from the Bugnay Village. It was 3 1/3 inches in diameter – about 215 ring gauge – and weighted about 727 pounds! It cost 12,000 Philippine pesos to make, or about $289 U.S. and was brought through the town by 150 City Hall employees. It’s not a cigar in the traditional sense, since it’s not smokable, but it was quite a stunt to promote Candon City and its primary product, which is Virginia tobacco. ‘We just want something to highlight our city,” said Candon Mayo Allen G. Singson. The 101-meter cigar follows up on the two 50-meter-long (165 foot) cigars made during the Festival in 2006, but no filing was made for a Guinness certification as a “world record.” A cigar-rolling contest was also held that drew a 90-year-old contestant, but the winner was Jean Bautista, 53, who rolled a four-foot-long cigar in about five minutes! She then lit it up and smoked it to show that it was, in fact, a real cigar. There was also a smoking contest in which 73-year-old Teresita Galanto puffed through a six-inch-long cigar in a little more than five minutes. ~ Rich Perelman CLASSIFIED ADVERTISINGCigar Humidors and Cigar Accessories at Humidor Vault!
