ImagePlus: A new world-record cigar may be coming soon!

Los Angeles, April 28 – Although the number of cigar-themed exhibitors at last week’s Tobacco Plus Expo in Las Vegas was down from previous years, some interesting items were seen on the floor that could be coming to a smokeshop near you.

  • Csonka Worldwide, maker of all kinds of innovative accessories, has created a serious cigar holder that can be used for golf, on a boat or in your backyard. It’s called the Cigar Buddy and it’s a steel and brass device that had a vice-type base that uses a push-screw to secure it to any post or rail of up to 1 3/8 inches thick.

The two sides of the grip are large enough and smooth enough that they won’t leave a mark and the cigar-holding end can be rotated easily to any angle. The cigar grip itself is also steel with a series of ridges forming a “Y” shape into which a cigar can be placed securely.

It comes with a ballistic nylon carrying case and a convenient cigar punch for a suggested retail price of $75.00.

  • Zippo demonstrated an expansion of its line of ZippoBLU butane torch lighters, including the first themed lighter. Since its introduction last fall, the ZippoBLU has been steadily gaining interest in the cigar community.

Thus, Zippo showed four new designs, including a themed lighter for Jim Beam Scotch and an appropriately-colored blue lighter design. More are promised – including more themed lighters – for the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers (IPCPR) trade show later this year.

  • Although not a cigar accessory, the strange and interesting Solopipe was also on display and drawing interest.

The Solopipe is a rectangular, steel pipe which has a “bowl” at the front, a small mouthpiece which protrudes in the rear and has an integrated, refillable butane-powered lighter. You place your pipe tobacco in the small bowl and just press the lighter mechanism, which then ignites the tobacco.

It’s definitely different and if nothing else, is a feat of clever engineering. It’s now offered in three colors – Black Steele, Candy Copper and the original Classic Chrome with prices ranging from $44-$52 each.

    More “homes away from home”:
Even if you have a good spot to smoke at home, it’s really hard to know where to find a cigar-friendly space on the road. That could be changing.

The trade journal Smokeshop reported that The Metropolitan Society of Fairfield, New Jersey, a highly-successful cigar club born out of that state’s smoking ban, is working to organize the International Association of Cigar Clubs (IACC), which could serve as a national reference point for smokers looking for places to share a cigar on the road.

The concept includes reciprocal membership privileges among member clubs, although the number of clubs across the country will have to expand to have the idea really work. The CigarClubs.org Web site is designed to – eventually – be the meeting point for members.
