Page 1 of 2 Plus: Our Register & Win winner of the week!Los Angeles, June 4 – The seventh edition of the limited-production Camacho Liberty series is on the way to retailers and it’s one to remember. Christian Eiroa’s annual salute to the United States of America is once again in the famous Camacho “11/18" shape, a perfecto of six inches long and a ring gauge of 48 at each end, but expanding to 54 ring in the middle. In addition, the Liberty 2008 is box-pressed and has a double wrapper offered in the “barber pole” style of light and dark leaves arranged in a striped pattern. All of the tobacco was grown, as is the case on so many Camacho cigars, only in Honduras. Medium in body with what’s being called an “intricate” blend, the 2008 Liberty was made in just the one size in a production run of 40,000 cigars. Each is separately packed in its own slide-top, wooden coffin and there are only 2,000 chests of 20 which will be sold. The retail price is $16.50 per cigar or $330.00 per chest. This is the fifth year in a row that the Liberty limited edition has been made in the 11/18 shape and the second year in a row for striped cigars. Introduced in 2002, the inaugural Liberty line had five shapes, but just a single shape has been made for every year since except 2004 (a second Liberty size was issued). Production quantities remained constant at 40,000 for the fourth year in a row. New video contest looks for cigar stars Years ago, companies used to ask consumers to enter a contest by sending in a short message about how much they liked a specific product. The concept has now reached cigars, but in a 21st Century sort of way. Retail giant J-R Cigars is running a contest asking for video submissions on why the smoker likes the J-R Ultimate brand. From now through August 13, J-R is accepting videos on DVD of not more than five minutes in length that talk about the J-R Ultimate brand and will be judged on the contest theme (“Why I love the J-R Ultimate”), creativity and originality. Three prizes will be offered. The grand prize is a $1,000 J-R gift card, usable on the Web site for cigars, accessories and whatever else is being sold there, plus a box of any size of J-R Ultimate. Second prize is a $500 gift card and a box of Ultimates and the third prize is a $250 gift card and a box of Ultimates. The four pages of contest rules may it clear that entries which are “obscene, illegal or otherwise objectionable” will be rejected, which eliminates the work of some cigar video makers right from the start. However, assuming that 50 or more entries are received, the winners will be announced on August 15. |
