Heaven extends its flavored line of "Cherubs"
The popular Heaven brand of flavored cigars is well known for its unique set of tastes, including Mango-Licious and Strawberry Banana Bliss, but the convenient Cherubs size – 3 1/2 inch by 26-ring cigarillos – has only been offered in a limited set of flavors up to now.

However, at next month’s International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association convention and trade show, the Cherubs line will be available in all 14 flavors in elegant, new clam-shell tins of 10.

In addition to the five currently-offered flavors – Heavenly Vanilla, Cupid’s Cherry Cream, Raging Rum, Celestial Cognac and Heather’s Honey Nut – the line will add Angel’s Spice (cinnamon), Aphrodite’s Amaretto, Chocolate Thunder, Grape Goddess, Mojito Madness, Mango-Licious, Midnight Mocha Creme, Orange Dreamsicle and Strawberry Banana Bliss.

The Cherubs are the smallest size in the line, which also include the Petite (5 x 30), Corona (5 1/2 x 46) and Torpedo (6 x 50), all made by hand in the Dominican Republic.

Cuba announces vaccine for lung cancer!
The Reuters news agency reported that the Cuban government has approved a new drug, developed and manufactured in Cuba, that will extend the lives of lung cancer patients.

The drug is called CimaVax EGF and it has reportedly been demonstrated to increase survival of some lung cancer patients by an average of 4-5 months and sometimes even longer. The drug is promoted as having many fewer side effects than chemotherapy because it is a modified protein which attacks only cancerous cells and not otherwise normal and healthy cells.

“It’s the first vaccine for lung cancer registered in the world,” said Gisela Gonzalez, who has been in charge of the project, begun back in 1992. Reuters noted that there are other drugs of similar design which are in tests in other countries. She told the news agency that she believed the drug could be approved next in Peru and be available there by the end of this year.

Gonzalez added that CimaVax EGF has been approved for clinical trials in the U.S., but that possible use is at least 2-3 years away.

The U.S. trade embargo with Cuba currently only allows essentially one-way trade of food and medical supplies, for cash, between American producers and the Cubans. If CimaVax EGF is approved for use in the U.S., it looks like there will be a change in the embargo rules to allow it to enter the U.S. Gonzalez said that although the Cubans plan to license companies to market the drug, but that it will be produced in Cuba.

How ironic that smokers – primarily of cigarettes – who contract lung cancer could be helped by a drug from Cuba, the most famous producer of tobacco in the world!
