Arundel noted that the remarkable effort put forward to get so close to the ballot on the first try is a sign that they can succeed. “Just as our opponents failed the first time they tried to pass the current draconian smoking ban, so too will we be back to correct this injustice,” he said in a statement. “We have learn much in the process and we will be better prepared the next time around. Meanwhile, we will continue to work to change the law as it is written, starting with the legislature in January. “The current ban is not fair to owners and customers of cigar stores and cigar bars and members of private clubs. These locations cater strictly to adults who want to enjoy a legal product – tobacco, generally, and premium cigars, specifically. No one would go into a cigar store or a cigar and not expect smoking to be permitted. This is as much a matter of supporting personal rights and fairness as anything else.” Washington voters passed the ban in 2005. New Perdomo Patriarch on the way “My father went to Nicaragua fifteen years ago and started our factory from the ground up. He pioneered our growing operations and prior to his passing on July 2, 2004. He made sure that we controlled every aspect of our manufacturing facility. I have always felt honored and blessed to work alongside my best friend, my Dad.” That’s Nick Perdomo on his father, Nicolas Perdomo, Sr., to whom the new Perdomo Patriarch cigar is dedicated. It will be formally introduced at next week’s International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association show in Las Vegas. Constructed of all-Nicaraguan-grown leaves, it’s a medium-to-full-bodied blend offered in both Corojo and Maduro wrappers in six sizes: Corona Extra (5 5/8 x 46), Lonsdale (6 1/2 x 42), Robusto (5 x 50), Toro (6 x 50), Churchill (7 x 48) and Torpedo (6 1/2 x 54). This blend will be instantly recognizable on the shelf as it’s double banded with “Perdomo” on the band near the head and “Patriarch” on the footer band. Retail prices will range from $6.00 for the Corona Extra up to $9.00 for the Torpedo. Newest Nat Sherman lines to be distributed by Altadis U.S.A. Lew Rothman and his Cigars by Santa Clara wholesale division and J-R Cigars retail operation are among the most efficient in the industry. But they do not employ a sales force which visits individual retailers. That’s why three brands developed by Rothman for the famed Nat Sherman line – the Nat Sherman 489, Nat Sherman 1400 and Nat Sherman Omerta blends – will now be sold by Altadis U.S.A.’s national sales force. All three of these cigars are made in Nicaragua. The Omerta was introduced in 2005 as a full-bodied blend with all-Nicaraguan tobaccos; the 1400 (named for the longtime address of the original Nat Sherman store on Broadway in New York) is medium in body with an Ecuadorian wrapper and Nicaraguan interior leaves, and the 489 debuted last year, also with an Ecuadorian-grown, Sumatra-seed wrapper that medium to full in body. “We have always enjoyed a warm relationship with Altadis U.S.A.,” said Nat Sherman president Joel Sherman., “and this is a unique opportunity for both parties. Having the ability to partner with such a professional sales force to represent and handle the sales of Nat Sherman cigars will certainly help further the Nat Sherman brand and make it more accessible to our customers.” Sherman’s longer-lived Host Selection and Metropolitan Selection brands, introduced in the 1990s, will continue to be handled by Rothman’s Santa Clara wholesale division and sold at stores nationwide. ~ Rich Perelman CLASSIFIED ADVERTISINGCigar Humidors and Cigar Accessories at Humidor Vault!
