Page 1 of 2 Plus: Washington pro-cigar initiative just misses ballotLos Angeles, July 9 – We had plenty of interest in our giveaway of 232 cigars to celebrate the 232nd birthday of America over the July 4th weekend, but only one person could win. That person is Jeff Pennington of Harriman, Tennessee! He wins our Fourth-of-July-Weekend bonanza that includes an Andre Garcia cigar case, a Mean Sardine cutter from Xikar and 13 boxes, bundles and packs of cigars including: Our thanks to Barrington House International for the Pride of Jamaica box; Cusano Cigars for the Cusano-Cuvee Taste Tour Samplers, General Cigar for the La Gloria Cubana Wavells, J-R Cigars for the Martinez New York Gold Series Empires and to Mike’s Cigars for the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Series, Cuban Sandwich, Fonseca Predilectos and Old Fashioned, plus Andre Garcia Cases and our friends at Xikar for the cutter! This week we’re back to just one box: Montecristo Habana 2000 Especial No. 2 maduros, a 5-inch by 40-ring petit corona in a box of 20, courtesy of Mike’s. You can register by clicking on the box at the top right-hand corner of the CigarCyclopedia.com home page, clicking on the box that says “Register now to win free cigars and accessories.” If you have already registered, there’s no need to do so again as you are already in the drawing. If not, register today! You must be 21 or older to win; good luck! All-volunteer initiative signature drive misses ballot by 5% “We take great pride in the fact that, without any large money contributed by outside special interest groups, we almost got there.” That’s Rain City Cigar owner Joe Arundel of Seattle, Washington, who led the effort to place an initiative on the state’s November ballot that would eased the harshest smoking ban in the nation to allow smoking in cigar shops, cigar bars and private clubs. Signatures were collected in cigar shops, clubs and elsewhere and with 225,000 signatures required to be collected by July 3, the coalition was able to amass a little more than 213,000, short of the requirement. |
