Page 1 of 2 Plus: Steals and Deals!Las Vegas, Nv., July 14 – A strong opening day at the 76th International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR) convention and trade show in Las Vegas showed that despite plenty to worry about on the regulatory front, cigars are again accelerating as a lifestyle choice for a significant swath of Americans. How can you tell? Three telling displays showed that cigar sales and cigar “stuff” are reaching out to mainstream America, as well as the ultra-well-to-do: The boxes themselves appear well-made, with an interior tray and a total capacity of about 100 cigars, depending on size. All are fully accessorized with a humidifier and hygrometer and the glossy, lacquered finishes are elegant. The prices are reasonable, too, at $250 retail. Each side has room for about 36 boxes to be shown, with more storage inside the trailer as well as supplies and the cash register. The trailer was such a hit in Daytona this year that the company is now contracted to provide cigar vending from trailers at 25 of 33 NASCAR events and will be branching out to other events. A total of four trailers will be available nationwide by the end of the year and Rollin’ Stix can be invited to participate in an event, or the trailer can be rented for local operators (cigar stores, clubs or individuals) to use at local events such as fairs and festivals. The Austrian firm of Ysenberg introduced its “Cigar Couture” line with a series of ashtrays featuring designs executed in gold and protected under crystal, personal cigar bands that are slipped over a cigar and including a fine leather panel that allows the band to fit most ring gauges and some interesting, hand-crafted humidors. There are plenty of new cigars, too, and we’ll have more details in tomorrow’s report. But it’s also Tuesday, which means it’s time for saving money. |
