General Cigar announced during the show that only about 250,000 of these cigars would be produced in 2008, in five sizes: Artesanitos (5 x 46; $8.00 each at retail); Campana Chica (5 1/2 x 58 torpedo; $12.50); Elegante (6 7/8 x 49; $11.00); Gran Corona Especiale (6 x 54); $13.00) and Sabroso (5 1/2 x 52; $10.00). All will be offered in boxes of 25.

The blend is designed to be medium-to-full in body, but as Ernesto Perez-Carrillo puts it, “After much experimentation, I arrived at a blend that is reminiscent of La Gloria Cubana, with a vastly different taste that pays tribute to the heritage of the brand that brought prominence to the El Credito Cigar Factory.” The Artesanos uses a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper, with an Ecuadorian-grown, Sumatra-seed binder and filler leaves from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

Perez-Carrillo selected the 10 rollers who are producing this cigar for him; he noted that this specific blend had been developed slowly over a total of six years.

Correction on S.T. Dupont and Lotus MJYX
In Friday’s item on the new wholesale distribution arrangements for S.T. Dupont (like the Ligne 2 shown above), we confused the issue by including a reference to the Bugatti, Lotus and Porsche Design lighter and accessory lines. Let’s straighten this out:

  • S.T. Dupont lighters, pens, leather goods and other accessories are now distributed to the trade in the U.S. by Lotus MJYX, headquartered in Warwick, Rhode Island, which handles only Dupont merchandise sales and support.

  • Bugatti, Lotus and Porsche Design lighters and accessories are distributed to the trade by Integral Logistics Integral Logistics of Sunrise, Florida, as in the past.

We apologize for any inconvenience our reporting error may have caused.
