Los Angeles, August 12 – One of the marks of a successful cigar maker is when distributors begin asking them to make cigars for them.

Augusto Reyes had become very well known in the Dominican Republic for making cigars for others – like the Fittipaldi line – but yearned to create his own brand and express his idea about taste and construction. He finally took the leap in 2006 with a three-blend line initially called “A R” but now known as Augusto Reyes.

The three styles include the Criollo, medium-bodied with a wrapper grown in Ecuador; the Epicur, an ultra-smooth, medium-bodied blend that received an “A” grade in our tasting in May 2007, and the Nativo, a medium-to-full-bodied Dominican puro.

These are interesting cigars to discover on your own and Mike’s Cigars is offering a fun way to try them all: buy any one of the eight featured boxes of 24 on sale now and they’ll throw in a $40 (retail) sampler of six, with two each of all three blends.

Click here to take advantage of this readers-only special. Our thanks to Mike’s for the offer; you can buy as many of these specials as you like until 9 a.m. Eastern time on Monday, August 18, or until supplies run out.

Cigars International:
The C.A.O. America series was introduced with three shapes, but the recent “Four for the Fourth” sampler introduced two wild additions, both of which are now on sale on their own!

> Bottle Rocket (7 x 50), in a sampler of five for $23.00 or the box of 30 for $221.95.

> Constitution (6 x 50), five for $35.00 or 20 for $129.95.

  • C.A.O. 65th Anniversary Moda (6 x 52), in the box of 10 was $89.95, now $79.95.

  • Gurkha Master’s Select XO Maduro (6 x 60), hard to find, but now offered in the box of 25 for $130.000.

  • Macanudo Gold Label, maybe the best of the Macanudo line, with a light and delicate flavor that’s the absolute definition of a “mild” cigar:

    > Hampton Court (5 1/2 x 42), in a sampler of five for $23.00;

    > Lord Nelson (7 x 49), five for $27.00;

    > Shakespeare (6 1/4 x 45), five for $22.00;

    > Tudor (6 x 52), five for $26.00.

    Famous Smoke Shop:
    Altadis U.S.A.’s Playboy brand – the one with the bunny on the band – was introduced in 2007 and while it’s a niche player, it’s on sale now:

    > Churchill (7 x 50), 24 was $139.99, now $131.99;
