Here, finally, are some cigars that actually are aged that long . . . because they weren’t released when they were supposed to. It’s the Don Arturo Gran AniverXario from the Tabacalera A. Fuente.

This blend, of all Dominican tobaccos, was originally created by Carlos Fuente, Jr. in 2001 as a tribute to the 90th anniversary of the Arturo Fuente Cigar Co., which his grandfather founded in 1912. The concept was to release a commemorative cigar each year for ten years to mark the company’s centennial. Although the cigars were produced, they were never released and have been in the Fuente aging room for seven years.

Now, the Don Arturo Gran AniverXario is available, distributed by Prometheus International of Commerce, California. As a salute to the 96th anniversary of the Arturo Fuente Cigar Co. in 2008, a total of 96 humidors with 96 cigars each (total: 9,216 cigars) are being offered, each including a copy of a biography of Carlos Arturo Fuente, better known as Carlos, Sr.

The AniverXario’s remarkable band pictures all three generations of the cigar-making Fuentes, as well as the “AF” company logo and the famous Opus X logo.

Four different finishes of the two-level custom Prometheus humidors are being offered: 30 in Walnut Burl, 25 each in Red Sycamore and Macassar Ebony and 16 in Yellow Eye Maple, at a retail price of $7,500 each . . . if you can find them.

Would you like to win 10,000 gallons of gas?
Dave Garofalo has a knack for promotion and his annual celebration at Two Guys Smoke Shops in New Hampshire has reached a new high in 2008.

His 23rd anniversary party on November 19 will culminate with the award of a tankerful – 10,000 gallons – of gasoline! “That’s about 12 years’ worth of gasoline for most people,” said Garofalo. “We’re going over the top this time because we want to show our customers throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts how much we really love them and that we want to help them deal with the high price of gasoline while they enjoy our hand-made cigars.”

The 10,000-gallon giveaway will take place at the Two Guys gala on November 19. Garofalo said the event “will b held at DiBurros Function Facilities in Ward Hill, Massachusetts when more than 500 guests will receive 23 cigars each, prizes, surprises, a complete, five-course Italian meal, live music and entertainment and the chance to meet some of the top cigar celebrities and manufacturers.” Tickets are priced at $200 each.

But the prizes aren’t confined to the gala. All three Two Guys locations are handing out $10 gas cards with purchases of specific boxes of cigars. In the past, Garofalo has given away a Hummer H2, twin Harley-Davidson motorcycles and trips to visit cigar factories in the Dominican Republic!

love the articles... the %s of female smokers shouldn't be ignored with the constant growth of female cigar smokers lately. Me and my fiancee', for instance, like Romeo y Julietas every now and then... She likes the flavor as I do. The stats of their buying habits when it comes to cigars certainly shows what people such as myself know (I'm in marketing)- it's usually about the experience they may have had with their favorite brand(s). Keep up the good work, guys- great work as usual.
