The Good, Bad & Ugly Valient is packed in a dark, rough-hewn box that reminds you of the chests carried on stage coaches of the Old West. There are 50 cigars per box, but the price is more than right at just $2.50 each (retail) for any of the three sizes: Robusto (5 inches by 52 ring), Toro (6 x 54) or Churchill (7 x 50). A very, very nice cigar and a great value.

Overall grade: A: Exceptional.

The Today’s Trenz folks created a unique series with the Scarface lines. There’s a “Scarface” series which includes a little cigar (4 x 28) and a 5 1/2-inch by 42-ring torpedo which are passable, but the Tony Montana Series is much more serious. We tried all three styles:

Scarface – Tony Montana Series “Money”:
[Honduras: available in 2 sizes]
The Tony Montana Series “Money” edition features an Ecuadorian-grown, Sumatra-seed wrapper with a medium body and a slightly spicy aroma.

This cigar is very well made and burn evenly, with a creamy taste that also has notes of sweetness and caramel. Exceedingly smooth, it’s easy to like and easy to smoke. You know that you are near the end when a note of spice becomes present on the tongue well into the second half of the cigar.

The Tony Montana Series comes in only two sizes: a 5-inch by 52-ring robusto and a 7-inch by 54-ring double corona. Pricing is on the higher end at $7.70 for the robusto and $8.00 for the double corona, and both sizes are offered in boxes of 30.

Overall grade: A: Exceptional.

Scarface – Tony Montana Series “Power”:
[Honduras: available in 2 sizes]
The “Power” version of the Tony Montana series has – like all three editions – two bands, but this one has crossed, golden lightning bolts on the footer.

However, it’s not at all harsh, with a medium body and a spicy aroma. The blend features a Honduran-grown Habano wrapper and offers a caramelized sweetness in the taste, with a rich and short, tangy finish.

There’s a note of spice which enters at the midway point and the balance between creamy and spicy notes continues through the end. It’s not as consistent in approach as the “Money” version, but is a well-made cigar that will appeal to those who prefer a spicy note.

Overall grade: B+: Very Good.

Scarface – Tony Montana Series “Respect”:
[Honduras: available in 2 sizes]
The “Respect” version of the Tony Montana series features a Brazilian-grown, maduro wrapper and has a medium-to-full body and a spicy aroma.

As is to be expected from a maduro-wrapped cigar, there’s a rich taste with a note of dark caramel, but also a peppery note on the finish. This is an interesting cigar, but not as bold in flavor as the maduro wrapper might suggest. It’s very well made and burns evenly right to the end.

Like its siblings, it’s double-banded and offered in boxes of 30 at retail pricing of $7.70 (robusto) or $8.00 (double corona) each.

Overall grade: B+: Very Good.

The Tony Montana Series also includes one other remarkable shape that we didn’t taste this time, the 7-inch by 54-ring “The World Is Yours” cigar. This is a stunning achievement in manufacture, with all three wrappers – Brazilian, Honduran and Ecuadorian – taking up space at the head, middle and foot of the cigar, respectively! It’s offered in individual coffins in chests of 18 cigars and retails for $17.70 each.

Although these cigars have as much appeal for their novelty as their smoking attributes, we found a first-rate smoke in each series. In these cases, the old Hollywood lyric is right: there’s no business like show business . . . cigars!
