P.G. Gourmet Series: [Dominican Republic: available in 21 sizes] This is the blend which started it all: the P.G. Gourmet Series, which debuted way back in 1990. It’s as good today as it was then. Now wrapped in elegant, Connecticut-seed wrappers grown in Ecuador, the original P.G. blend is medium in body with a toasty and spicy aroma. It features a clean and smooth flavor with a light touch of caramel with a medium finish that’s elegant and rich. There’s just the most subtle undertow of spice in this cigar that makes it even more interesting. It’s perfectly consistent, with a perfect draw and elegant balance. It’s never tiring and has an even burn. The P.G. Gourmet Series is offered in a dizzying array of sizes from the small Joyitas (4 1/2 inches by 26 ring) to the giant Celebration (9 x 50). Priced from $4.10 to $23.60 each (not including local taxes), it may not be the right cigar for every day, but an easy choice for that special celebration that calls for something special. Because this cigar is special. Overall grade: A: Exceptional. P.G. Gourmet Series II: [Dominican Republic: available in 4 sizes] The P.G. Series II is sometimes forgotten, but that would be a mistake. Medium in body with a light, spiced aroma, this is a terrific blend not to be missed. Introduced in 1999, it features a light, caramelized taste with a light, sweet finish. The flavor hums along with a consistent, sometimes tangy, but always engaging taste. There are subtleties on the finish in the second half, and the airy and easy confidence of this cigar is very seductive. It’s consistent right to the end and hard to put down at the finish. It’s offered in boxes of 25, but also in a pack of four in the Torpedo size only. Priced at $9.50 to $11.20 each, not including local taxes, it is always a cigar worth treating oneself to. Overall grade: A: Exceptional. P.G. Soiree: [Dominican Republic: available in 4 sizes] The Soiree debuted in 2007 and was specifically blended as a luxury cigar for the after-dinner smoker who is ready for its luxurious flavor. It’s double-banded and has a medium-to-full body and a toasty and spicy aroma. The taste runs to the caramelized side, with a lush flavor and a medium, sweet finish. The richness of the blend is quickly realized, but a perfect balance is always maintained. The Soiree delivers on its promise of consistency, smoothness and depth for a completely satisfying experience. All sizes are offered in boxes of 25 and are priced in line with the other P.G. blends at $9.50 to $11.60 each, not including local sales and tobacco taxes. This one is worth it! Overall grade: A: Exceptional. Garmirian had plenty of critics when he brought out his own cigar line after writing The Gourmet Guide to Cigars. But while the criticisms have faded over more than a decade and a half, the quality of Garmirian’s cigars remains a constant, a testament to his insistence that “P.G.” stands for much more than just “pretty good.” ~ Rich Perelman CLASSIFIED ADVERTISINGCigar Humidors and Cigar Accessories at Humidor Vault!
