VINTAGE CIGARS ON AUCTION OCT. 16 Print E-mail

  • One of the most popular cigars among collectors is the Havana-made Dunhill line. One box of five of the giant Havana Club shape (9 1/4 inches by 47 ring) is available and is expected to go for an amazing $2,275 to $3,325 or $455 to 655 each! That’s an expensive cigar.

There is also an interesting lot for collectors of Clear Havanas made in Tampa: a partial box of eight Cuesta-Rey Universales (5 1/2 x 42; some damaged), a full box of 50 Cuesta-Rey Selectos (5 1/2 x 38) and a partial box of 49 Gonzalez & Sanchez King Panetelas (5 1/2 x 40; some damaged). The three boxes together (107 cigars) are expected to bring $175-210.

Online bidding is accepted for this sale; for more information, please consult the Christie’s Web site.

New York smoker awarded Mini Cooper in Nub giveaway
The culmination of a heavy promotional program for the short but stout Nub cigar line from the Oliva Cigar Company came last weekend with the award of a specially-selected, 168-horsepower Mini Cooper S Convertible from among entries collected at the dozens of Nub parties at retailers across the country.

“This is a car that finds a way to deliver even more power than it does style,” said the Nub promotional announcement. The winner turned out to be Corneal Cox, who entered at Mom’s Cigars of Valley Stream, New York, which had its launch party way back on May 9.

The actual award of the car was made on a live Web cast on the Nub Web site last Saturday.

    And the winner is . . .
