AVO’S NEW LIMITED-EDITION CIGAR FOR 2005 Print E-mail
AVO’S NEW LIMITED-EDITION CIGAR FOR 2005Plus: take advantage of our February combination offer while there’s still time!

Los Angeles, February 21 – While attendees at Cuba’s Festival del Habano this week will debate the merits of the latest Edicion Limitadas, Davidoff of Geneva is getting ready to unveil its newest Limted Edition cigar from the Avo line.

The Avo “Limited Edition 5" will be unveiled at an upcoming dinner hosted in Orlando, Florida on March 18 and organized by the Corona Cigar Company.

A pre-dinner reception at Corona Cigar’s headquarters store in Orlando will be followed by a caravan to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, where Avo Uvezian himself will entertain in salute of the new LE5 and Avo’s 79th birthday.

Guests will feast on a four-course dinner and receive a barrel of Avo specialties, including a collector’s wine glass, a signed Avo ashtray, a souvenir pack of five Avo cigars and, of course, the first opportunity to try the new LE5. The dinner is limited to 40 guests and is already closing in on a sellout; if you are interested in attending, call Corona Cigar directly at (888) 70-CIGAR.

What about the LE5 cigar?

Avo brand manager Jolene Mauer revealed the details: a 5 3/8-inch by 52-ring robusto, with the strongest blend yet for an Avo Limited Edition. It offers a sun-grown wrapper from Ecuador and Dominican-grown binder and filler leaves for a medium-to-full-bodied taste.

It’s unbanded and offered in a lean and mean packing of 20 in a bundle inside a wooden box. Only 80,000 cigars were made for U.S. distribution (4,000 boxes), although an additional allocation has been made for Europe. The cigars will be offered to retailers in packings of 100 cigars (five boxes per pack) each.

This is the fifth in the Avo Limited Edition line which began back in 2001:

• The first Avo limited release was the 75th Anniversary cigar, a 7-inch by 50-ring double corona, which earned enough popularity to become the Avo Signature line available today. The double-banded, original 75th Anniversary blend was offered in boxes of 10 and featured a special sun-grown wrapper from Ecuador and a strong interior blend using San Vicente ligero leaves for binder and filler and adding Piloto Cubano in the filler, both grown in the Dominican Republic.

• The Avo <22> came next, in 2002, but without any bands. This was a perfecto, measuring 5 7/8 inches long and 50 ring, offered in canisters of 19 in the U.S., but in wooden boxes of 22 in Europe.

• The 2003 edition was the Avo <77> celebrating the composer’s 77th birthday. This was a double-banded, toro, 6 1/2 inches long by 50 ring, again with an Ecuadorian-grown wrapper and Dominican-grown binder and filler, just as with the previous two models. This time the cigars were packed in elegant wood boxes of 14.

• The Avo “Legacy” debuted in 2004 and offered 12 cigars in a fancy wood-box package which also included a CD of some of Avo’s best music. The cigar itself was a torpedo in format, just 5 3/4 inches long and 48 ring. It was fairly mild with its Ecuadorian wrapper and Dominican-grown interior leaves.

Continuing its leadership in the field, Davidoff will unveil its third limited-edition cigar in 2005, although it started the rage back in 1997 with its “535" special edition to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Madison Avenue store in New York.
