Fabulous sampler-pack prices on full-bodied brandsLos Angeles, March 16 – Looking for a bargain? It’s getting harder, but we found some nice values that are at least fun for window shoppers! Cigars International: Keith Meier and the gang at Cigars International have been offering a torrent of deals, but we liked this one the best: • Jericho, from Caribe Imported Cigars, who also makes the famed Camacho Corojo brand. This is a re-run of a brand originally introduced by Simon Camacho in 1972. Medium in body, all sizes are being offered in boxes of 20 for $49.95: > Churchill (7 inches by 48 ring), was $71.95, now $49.95. > Corona (5 1/2 x 44), was $53.95, now $49.95. > Robusto (5 x 50), was $63.95, now $49.95. > Toro (6 x 50), was $67.95, now $49.95. > Torpedo (6 x 54) – our favorite in this deal – was $79.95, now $49.95. Famous Smoke Shop: Like the rotation of the earth, Famous never stops. Day and night the prices change, the selection changes and we get tired even thinking about updating our CigarWire comparison shopper spreadsheet, but when we do, there are always deals worth reporting: • La Gloria Cubana Glorias en Cedro (6 3/4 x 48) were $29.95 for 7, now $26.95, a great way to try this brand if you’ve been deprived so far. • La Gloria Cubana Reserva Figurados, Ernesto Carrillo’s latest, spicy blend: > Flechas (6 1/2 x 49 perfectos), were $130 per box of 20, now $103.95. > Piramides (7 1/4 x 56 pyramids), were $145 for 20, now $115.95. > Selectos de Lujos (7 1/4 x 54 perfectos), were $150 for 20, now $119.95. • Macanudo Duke of York (5 1/4 x 54), ranked no. 2 in our list of the best mild-bodied cigars available in the U.S., regularly $114.95 for the box of 25, now $100.95. • Partagas Black Label Bravo (4 1/2 x 54), which we liked enough to rank among the top full-bodied cigars on the U.S. market, was $67.95 per box of 20, now $62.95. Also, Partagas Black Label Maximos – 6 inch by 50 ring toros in tubes – was $93.95 for the box of 20, now $79.95. That’s $4 a stick and worth it, especially after a steak dinner. Mike’s Cigars: Oscar Boruchin has whipped up a wide range of specials this week, especially in sampler packs of five: • Bolivar Cabinet A (7 1/4 x 49) in a five-pack for $15 or the Cabinet C (5 3/4 x 43) in fives for just $12! • C.A.O. l’Anniversaire Cameroon, the best of their anniversary series: > Churchill (6 7/8 x 48), five for $22.50, the best value we have seen on this brand; > Belicoso (6 x 54), five for $23.70; > Toro (5 1/2 x 55), five for $21.60. • Don Diego Aniversario, an underrated cigar with more personality than the standard Don Diego line: > Lord Rothschilde (5 x 52), five for $19.50, a very nice price; > Prime Minster (7 x 54), five for $22.50, and > No. 3 (5 1/2 x 44), five for $18.00. • Felipe Gregorio, a must-try brand for those who love pronounced flavor in their cigars, but without undue spiciness, finally available in sampler packs: > Belicoso (6 1/2 x 54), a treat under all conditions, five for $24; > Petit Perfecto (5 x 52), five for $14.40, the best deal of the three, and > Robusto (5 x 52), five for $16.50. • H. Upmann Havana 2000 Torbusto, a fat 5 1/2-inch by 60-ring beauty, was $112.50 for the box of 20, now $89.95. • Montecristo White No. 3 (5 1/2 x 44), five for $22.50, the best price we’ve seen on this popular brand. • Onyx Reserve No. 4 (5 x 44), deeply flavored with a glorious maduro wrapper, just $12 for five cigars! • Partagas Naturales (5 1/2 x 50), always seems to be on sale in full boxes, but now offered five for $18.60, the best price we have seen yet in a sampler pack. • Partagas Black Label Clasico (5 1/4 x 54), try these if you don’t already buy by the box: five for just $16.05! Yowsah! • Puros Indios, maybe the best value-for-price brand of all: > Presidente (7 1/4 x 47), five for $17.70, just ridiculous; > Rothschild (5 x 50), five for $9.90! Stop hurting me! > Toro Especial (6 x 53), five for $11.10, just incredible. As good a deal as you’ll ever see at Ikea and there’s no assembly required. Lovers of full-bodied cigars are advised that the trifecta of Felipe Gregorio, Partagas Black Label and Puros Indios should not be smoked on an empty stomach . . . or before noon (local time) any day of the week. ~ Rich Perelman
