STEALS AND DEALSPlus: historic Partagas Sevilla Humijar brings big price on eBay

Los Angeles, March 23 – Maybe not steals, but some good deals to save you money:

Atlantic Cigar:
Like many others, Atlantic is on the sampler bandwagon and that’s where some good opportunities to try some pretty expensive cigars can be found, for much less than the price of a full box of 20 or 25:

• Trinidads in packs of five, a pretty good value compared to a full box:

> Churchill (7 inches by 50 ring), five for $35

> Fundador (7 1/2 x 44), five for $35;

> Mini Belicoso (5 x 52), five for $35;

> Robusto (5 x 50), five for $29.75;

> Toro (6 x 50), five for $31.50.

Atlantic also has Sancho Panza in the Valiente size (5 1/4 x 50); the box of 20 was $46.00, now $43.70.

BestCigarPrices.com:
If you’re a fan of heavy, spicy cigars, the Oliveros XL for Men is for you. Powerful and spicy, it’s now offered at the best prices we have seen yet:

> XL 52 (5 x 52), box of 20 for $59.95;

> XL 55 (6 x 55), box of 20 for $61.95;

> XL 60 (5 3/4 x 60), box of 20 for $69.95.

Don’t try these on an empty stomach!

Famous Smoke Shop:
As usual, Arthur Zaretsky and the boys are sandpapering their fingers to change as many prices as possible in world-record time:

• Avo XO Assortment featuring all seven sizes in this line, regularly $67.40, now $49.95.

• Davidoff 9-cigar Sampler, a really nice way to try all of their blends at a price that won’t require a line of credit, regularly $112.99, now $99.95.

You get one each of the No. 2, No. 2000, No. 4000, Aniversario Tubos No. 3, Grand Cru No. 2, Millennium Blend Robusto, Short T, Short Perfecto and Special R. We ranked the Aniversario series as the best mild-bodied cigar available on the U.S. market, the Special series as no. 2 in the medium-bodied category and the Millennium Blend as no. 5 among full-bodied cigars. Here’s your chance to try them all!

• Fonseca Vintage, underrated and at a substantial discount:

> Belicoso (6 1/2 x 52), was $84.95 for the box of 20, now $69.95;

> Churchills (7 x 50), was $74.95 for 20, now $69.95;

> Lonsdale (6 3/4 x 45), was $85.95 for 20, now $69.95.

• H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon ashtray assortments at close-out prices:

> Five Robustos (5 x 52), plus the ashtray, was $53.95, now $19.95!

> Five Toros (6 x 54), plus the ashtray, was $56.95, also $19.95!

This is a great Father’s Day gift if you are buying early.

• La Aurora Preferidos in one of our favorites, the six-pack sampler. This all-perfecto package is regularly $72.00, now $49.95. It includes two each of the no. 1 (6 x 58), no. 2 (5 x 54) and the no. 3 (4 x 50).

• Padron standard series, by far the best value of the line and – for our taste – better and more consistent than the more celebrated 1964 Anniversary Series or the 1926 Series. The best offers include:

> No. 2000 (5 x 50), was $82.50, now $74.95 for the box of 25;

> No. 3000 (5 1/2 x 52), was $101.25 for the box of 25, now $90.35;

> No. 5000 (5 1/2 x 56), was $143.85 for the box of 25, now $129.50;

> Ambassador (6 7/8 x 42) was $81.25 for 25, now $72.85;

> Churchill (6 7/8 x 46), was $102.50 for 25, now $92.25;

> Delicias (4 7/8 x 46), small enough to keep in a tin and a great 20-minute smoke, was $74.95 for 25 and now $67.45;

> Londres (5 1/2 x 42), was $57.50 for 25, now $51.75.

• La Tradicion Cabinet Series Perdomo Reserve, with an enormous range, now in a sampler of seven cigars in the “R” size (5 x 54) in all four wrapper styles: one Champagne and two each of the Cameroon Reserve, Cuban Café and Reserve Maduro: $49.95.

Hammer time:
The fascination with cigar jars continued on eBay with a remarkable price for a Partagas Sevilla Humijar (pictured above), just like the one pictured on the cover of our Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Havana Cigars. Although the seller believed the jar from the early 1900s, it was in fact a post-nationalization jar, but in good condition.

The item drew 27 bids in all and ended with a final price of $710.00, well more than similar jars had brought in the past. Ole!

Also up was a single Fuente Fuente Opus X “Perfecxion A” (9 1/4 x 47) in a slide-top coffin. Retailing for $25, this one drew four bids and a final price of $50.25. An odd-looking, book-style humidor filled with tobacco leaves and seven Opus X cigars drew 12 bids and a final price of $162.50 ($23.21 a stick).

Still available is a unique collectors item: a single Flor de Canarias Recuerdo, a 25 1/2-inch-long cigar with a ring gauge of about 96! It’s still in its cellophane wrapper and is offered by an Australian seller with an opening bid of AU $1,500 (about $1,180). No bidders yet, but the auction will continue until Thursday night Pacific time.
