Plus: Steals and Deals from Famous Smoke Shop and Cigars InternationalLos Angeles, April 6 – Remember George Carlin’s great “Son of Wino” routine in his AM/FM album? I remembered it when I saw the newest “big deal” on CigarAuctioneer.com: a complete 150-cigar Partagas 150 humidor. Solid Gold, indeed! The humidor was General Cigar’s tribute to Ramon Cifuentes, whose family owned the Partagas factory and the Partagas and Ramon Allones brands in Cuba at the time of nationalization. Cifuentes died in 2000, five years after General produced a special Partagas 150 Signature Series anniversary line in eight sizes featuring then-18-year-old Cameroon wrapper. Later in 2000, General created 1,000 humidors of 150 cigars each, with 50 of the 150 Signature Series and 100 of a new series of Ramon y Ramon cigars, a tribute to the late Cifuentes, made in five sizes. These big boxes retailed for $2,720 if you could find one and this one is complete, right down to the sap stains on the inside of the cedar humidor lid. The bidding starts at $1, but the final bid will be much, much higher. The auction ends Monday (April 11) at 9:59 p.m. Eastern time. All seven are of the “R” size (5 inches by 54 ring), with one Champagne, two Cameroon, two Cuban Café and two Maduro editions. • Cigars International: We spoke above about “super gold,” but Keith Meier found some “rusted mold,” stashed somewhere in the Americas when he bought up some “Burt’s Gold,” an ill-fated Cigar Boom introduction from 1998. Actor Burt Reynolds endorsed the cigar, made by the Tabacalera Don Rafael in Villa Gonzalez, Dominican Republic. It offered a mild-to-medium-bodied blend, but like its siblings – Burt’s Gold and Burt’s Lady – it made almost no impact on the market. Now, Cigars International is offering the Panatela size (7 x 42) in boxes of 50 for $49.95. As Meier wrote, “Burt’s Gold is a decent everyday cigar that’ll match your pizza budget.” ~ Rich Perelman
