Los Angeles, April 27 – More opportunities to save some money on your favorite cigars, if any of these specials are still in stock:

Cigars International:
Keith Meier and the boys found some nice buys and are passing them onto you:

• Dunhill Dominican Diamantes (6 5/8 inches by 42 ring), a mild-bodied, brilliantly-constructed cigar with just a touch of spice that is rarely discounted. Now, you can get a box of 25 for $115, one of the lowest priced we have seen.

• La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero series, with the head shaped like a tipped cigar, but made with tobacco. A sensational cigar even without the chisel tip for those who like heavier cigars, at discounted prices:

> Chisel (6 x 54), box of 20 for $104.95;

> Chisel Gorda (5 1/2 x 48), 20 for $99.95;

> Chisel Chiselito (5 x 44) 20 for $92.95.

• Private Stock No. 14 (6 1/2 x 50), a sometimes misunderstood brand. Made at Hendrik Kelner’s Tabadom factory in the Dominican Republic, Private Stock was long rumored to be Davidoff seconds, but this is a separate blend with a mild-to-medium body. Here, it is offered in a box of 25 for $49.95, less than $2 a stick!

• Saint Luis Rey 1996, a blast from the past. Introduced at our Le Cigar Noir show in Beverly Hills on May 1, 1996, this was a hit from the start, offering a full-bodied but extremely smooth taste in a unique windowed box. Keith found 750 boxes of these somewhere and after nearly 10 years, they should be softer than down . . . just $49.95 for a box of 25 Robustos (5 x 50). Get ‘em while they last!

Famous Smoke Shop:
Must be vacation time in Easton, Pennsylvania, as the pace of change has slowed a little at Famous. Still, Arthur Zaretsky and his all-cigar band are playing “Changes” by David Bowie on their computers. The results:

• Arturo Fuente Curly Head Deluxe (6 1/2 x 44), on and off the sale block and the best value in the entire Fuente line, was $45.95 for 25, now just $39.95.

• Carlos Torano Tribute, outstanding but underrated as the Toranos don’t beat their own drum as heavily as others:

> Churchill (7 x 50), was $176.95, now $159.95 for the box of 22;

> Robustos, Torpedoes and Churchills in packs of five, now $5 off, from $40.95 to $48.95.

• Estavan Cruz, another Le Cigar Noir introduction from 1996 (this time from our New York show) and a well-made cigar that’s especially good with a heavy coffee. Right now, you can try the Churchill size (6 7/8 x 48) in 25s (natural or maduro) for only $69.95.

• Gran Habano No. 3, the Habano Blend with a Nicaraguan wrapper and medium body:

> Churchill (7 x 48), 20 was $67.95, now $50.95;

> Gran Robusto (6 x 54), 20 was $64.95, now $48.95;

> Pyramid (6 1/8 x 52), 20 was $71.95, now $53.95.

• Nice prices on Trinidad, an increasingly popular brand that is rarely seen at these prices:

> Belicoso (6 1/8 x 52), was $269.95 for the box of 25, now $215.95;

> Churchill (7 x 50), was $224.95 for 25, now $179.95;

> Corona (5 x 44), was 179.95 for 25, now $143.95;

> Fundador (7 1/2 x 40), was $224.95 for 25, now $179.95;

> Mini Belicoso (5 x 52), was $224.95 for 25, now $179.95;

> Robusto (5 x 50), was $191.95 for 25, now $152.95;

> Toro (6 x 50), was $202.95 for 25, now $159.95;

For lovers of Trinidad in the new maduro wrapped-version, a box of 20 Churchills is now $179.95, down from $215.95.

Mike’s Cigars:
From Bay Harbor, Florida come some nice prices from Oscar Boruchin:

• H. Upmann Cristales No. 41 (5 5/8 x 40), 20 elegant cigars in glass tubes, now $49.95.

• Grand prices on Helix, which we ranked no. 3 in our list of the top mild-bodied cigars in the U.S., as much for its gentle demeanor as its electric blue band and box:

> Cylinder (6 1/2 x 44 in tubes), the box of 20 was $53.95, now $46.95;

> Tubular (5 x 46 in tubes), 20 was $53.46, now $46.95;

> x542 (5 x 42), 25 was 60.75 for 25, now $46.95;

> x550 (5 x 50), 25 was $66.50, now $46.95;

> x652 (6 x 52), 25 was $51.95, now $74.25;

> x748 (7 x 48), 25 was $78.75, now $54.95;

> Super 8 (8 x 54 in maduro), 25 was $87.75, now $59.95;

> XP Pyramid (6 x 54 in maduro). 25 was $78.75, now $54.95.

• Punch Rothschild (4 1/2 x 50), one of the world’s great values, was $162.50 for the box of 40, now $106 . . . $2.65 a stick!

Just remember your credit card limits, now . . .

Did you know?

A shape designated as "898" usually refers to its packing, in three layers of 8, 9 and 8 cigars.
