Last hurrah for Dominican-made Henry Clays at J-R?Los Angeles, May 10 – Ooh, there are some good buys out there. Cigars are getting expensive and some chances to buy five-packs of some top brands are worth pursuing: Atlantic Cigar: Great opportunity on one of the best value brands anywhere and any time, Puros Indios. The entire line is discounted; our favorites include: > Churchill Especial (7 inches by 53 ring), was $76.80 for the box of 20, now $70.50, the lowest we have seen. > Presidente (7 1/4 x 47), 20 was $70.80, but is now $55.00. > Especial No. 1 (7 x 48), 20 was $67.20, now $53.90; > Nacionals (6 1/2 x 43), 20 was $44.40, now $37.40; > Toro Especial (6 x 53), 20 was also $44.40, now $40.70. Atlantic is also offering nice prices on Saint Luis Reys: > Rothschild (5 x 50), boxes of 25 were $49.50, now $46.28; > Churchills (7 x 52) or Belicoso (6 1/8 x 52), 25s were $58.50, now $55.05; > Toro (6 x 50), 25s were $54.00, now $50.26. Cigars International: Keith Meier and the boys at CI are offering some good buys on: • La Tradicion Cabinet Series Perdomo Reserve Champagne in two sizes in packs of five, a great way to try this celebrated version of the Perdomo Reserve line: > E-Epicure (6 x 54), five for $35, and > P-Perfecto (5 1/2 x 55), five for $39. • Partagas Cifuentes Seasonal Blend Fall 2004, a great cigar which can be aged beautifully. The Septiembre shape (5 1/2 x 49) is offered in the full box of 20 for $88.95, right at the lowest price we have seen, down from $96.50. • Trinidad Churchills in maduro (7 x 50), in boxes of 20 for $180, among the lowest we have seen; Corona Tins (5 x 44) in packs of 20 – five tins of four cigars each – for $115.00, the lowest we have seen. J-R Cigars: In addition to the new H. Upmann Super Fuerte we noted last week, Lew Rothman’s J-R is offering a passel of new specials: • Don Diego Corona Major Tubes (5 1/8 x 42), in boxes of 20 was $66.00, now $56.75; • Flor de Copan from Honduras, now $20 off on all sizes in boxes of 20, now $28.95 to $39.95, formerly $48.95 to $68.95; • Henry Clay, made in the Dominican Republic, on special before the emphasis shifts to the new Henry Clays made in Honduras. These roughly-finished cigars have lots of taste thanks to their Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrappers in the line’s three base sizes: > Brevas (5 1/2 x 42), boxes of 50 are now $104.95, down from $116.95; > Brevas Conserva (5 5/8 x 46), boxes of 25 were $64.95, now $57.95; > Brevas Fina (6 1/2 x 48), in boxes of 25 were $71.50, now $64.95. • Medal of Honor in his new Honduran blend, at $25 off per box of 35, now $70-80 per box! Our favorites are the Sweet Deal (6 1/4 x 48) with an Oscuro wrapper or the Best Ever (same size) with a natural wrapper, at $75 the box. Wow! Mike’s Cigars: Oscar Boruchin must be re-reading “Don Quixote”; he has a special on Sancho Panza! The Extra Fuerte series is priced right at the lowest level we have seen: Barcelonas (6 1/2 x 48) in boxes of 20 for $45; Cordobas (5 1/4 x 44) in boxes of 20 for $35, and Madrids (6 1/4 x 54) in 20s for $49.95. Payless Cigars: More deals from New Orleans and Payless, on some nice but not much appreciated brands: • Avo XO series: > Intermezzo Tubos (5 1/2 x 50), boxes of 20 were $116.95, now $104.95, right at the lowest level we have seen; > Maestoso Tubos (7 x 48), in 20s were $136.95, now $119.95. • Don Tomas Rothschilds (4 1/2 x 50), a close-out of a spicy classic at $34.95, the lowest price we have seen for a great lunchtime cigar. • La Perla Habana Toro (6 x 50, in natural or maduro), boxes of 20 were $75.00, now $64.95. • Private Stock No. 6 (5 1/4 x 46), boxes of 25 are now $44.95, the lowest we have seen. ~ Rich Perelman
