STEALS AND DEALSPlus: our Register & Winner of the week!

Los Angeles, August 23 – With the Retail Tobacco Dealers of America (RTDA) show completed, new cigars which debuted at the show are starting to ship. Along with some nice specials, look for these new cigars in this week’s review.

Cigars International:
Keith Meier and his team came up with a doozy on Trinidad, along with some other good values:

• La Fontana Vintage, from the makers of Camacho Corojo, at the lowest prices we have seen recently:

> Da Vinci (6 7/8 inches by 48 ring), in a box of 20 for $44.95;

> Galileo (5 x 50), 20 for $42.95;

> Michelangelo (8 x 54), 20 for $49.95, and

> Verdi (5 1/2 x 44), 20 for $40.95.

• “The Trinidad Triple Play” offering three golden tins, each with three of Altadis USA’s Trinidad Toros (6 x 50) for $34.95 (that’s $3.88 each) through August 25 at 9 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. You’ll need to e-mail and ask for this deal, though.

Famous Smoke Shop:
You’ve got to get up pretty early to beat Arthur Zaretsky and the boys at Famous. They’re first up with some of the new brands shown at the RTDA:

• Arturo Fuente Curly Head Deluxe (6 1/2 x 43) on the windshield wiper (this deal is on, then off, on, off, on, off), usually $45.95, now $39.95 for the box of 25.

• Bahia Trinidad No. 4 (5 1/2 x 43), an underrated cigar from Tony Borhani, was $88.95 for the box of 20, now $59.95, lowest in our survey.

• Bolivar in the new, powerhouse blend; Famous has it now:

> Churchill (7 x 49), in a box of 25 is available for $140.95;

> Lonsdale (6 1/2 x 45), 25 now available for $123.95;

> Robusto (5 1/2 x 50), offered in a box of eight for $41.95, and

> Toro (6 x 52), 25 for $133.95.

• Don Tomas Clasico sampler with General Cigar’s new blend; three different sizes for $6.20!

• Helix Infusion, General Cigar’s first flavored brand made in-house:

> Corona (5 1/4 x 44), in the box of 25 for $59.95;

> Petit Corona (5 x 48), 25 for $53.95, and

> Robusto (5 1/2 x 50), 25 for $67.95.

• La Gloria Cubana Wavells (5 x 50), in sampler packs of five for $11.40, the lowest in our review.

• Partagas Robusto (4 1/2 x 49), a brilliant cigar sometimes overlooked in all the hoohah over new brands, in a sampler pack of five for just $15.90, best in our survey.

• Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas, another new introduction from General:

> No. 1 (4 1/2 x 49), in the box of 20 for $256.95;

> No. 2 (5 1/2 x 50), 20 for $322.95;

• La Tradicion Cabinet Series Perdomo Reserve Cameroon R (5 x 54) in the sampler pack of five for $19.65, well down from the normal price of $29.95.

• Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte, in sampler packs of five:

> Barcelona (6 1/2 x 48), was $17.95, now $14.95;

> Cordoba (5 1/4 x 44), was $13.95, now $10.95;

> Madrid (6 1/4 x 54), was $20.95, now $17.95, and

> Pamplona (4 1/2 x 50), was $14.95, now $11.95.

Mike’s Cigars:
Two great values on brands not always found on the discount block:

• Camacho Corojo Gigante (6 x 54), our no. 1-ranked full-bodied cigar, in the box of 20 for $79.95, lowest in our review;

• Nat Sherman Host Selection Huron (4 3/4 x 44), no. 5 in our ranking of mild-bodied cigars, in the box of 25 for $69.95, also the lowest we have seen.

Payless Cigars:
Based in New Orleans, the Payless folks didn’t have for to go for the RTDA and have some nice specials to show for it:

• 3x3 Tubos Corona (5 1/2 x 43), introduced at the NATO Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, already on closeout at Payless! You get nine very nice Dominican-made cigars in tubes for just $18.95, down from $20.95.

• Davidoff Limited Edition 2005, the latest in the series, a 5 1/8-inch by 52-ring robusto, in boxes of 10 for $145.

• Joya de Nicaragua Celebracion Churchill (6 7/8 x 48), which we ranked the best of the Joya de Nicaragua line, offered in a box of 20 for $55.95, lowest we have seen.

More Mania:
Further to our story yesterday on the upcoming CigarMania program on September 28, Lew Rothman notes that the proceeds from the raffle of the Triumph motorcycle will go to the World of Montecristo Relief Organization. A portion of the proceeds from the show will go to the Cigar Association of America to fund outreach efforts to our elected officials to protect the rights of cigar smokers. Two worthwhile causes to get fired up for!

Tamorbil time:
Abraham Shafir wrote in to note that we misquoted the prices for the Tamboril Connecticut and Tamboril Sumatra brands we reviewed last Friday. The correct retail prices are still a bargain, but range from $4-$5.40 for the Connecticut line and $3.90-$5 for the Sumatra line, all before local tobacco taxes.

And the winner is:
Congratulations to Carl Thompson of El Paso, Texas, winner of our “Register & Win” drawing for an elegant box of Romeo y Julieta Dreams from our Perelman, Pioneer & Company humidors, courtesy of Mike’s Cigars.

Up for your pleasure this week is a bundle of 25 Felipe II Fusion, made in Nicaragua for boutique maker Felipe Gregorio. These are medium-bodied cigars with plenty of flavor offered in the ultra-popular robusto (5 x 50) format. It will be awarded in our drawing to be held on Sunday, August 28.
