STEALS AND DEALSPlus: our Register & Win winner of the week!

Los Angeles, September 13 – When we review prices from national retailers, we see patterns of price increases, new packaging and new products. Over the past week, we found some nice buys on cigars from the legendary Tabacalera A. Fuente, makers of many great brands, but this time on the Arturo Fuente, Hemingway, Cuesta-Rey and Diamond Crown Maximus lines.

Abner’s World:
If you’re a fan of the Tabacalera A. Fuente, Abner’s has a couple of specials just for you:

• Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Canones, their “big shot” cigar at 8 1/2 inches by 52 ring, on sale in the box of 20 for $106.95, lowest in our survey.

• Diamond Crown Maximus, the all-big-ring gauge series made for the J.C. Newman Cigar Company starting in 2003, all at the lowest price we have found:

> No. 1 Double Corona (8 x 50), in the box of 20 for $238.00;

> No. 2 Churchill (7 x 50), 20 for $203.00;

> No. 3 Pyramid (6 3/8 x 50), 20 for $224.00;

> No. 4 Toro (6 x 50), 20 for $168.00, and

> No. 5 Robusto (5 x 50), 20 for $133.00.

• Don Lino Africa, an interesting, full-bodied series from Miami Cigar, made by the La Aurora factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic and saluting animals in the language of the Maasi:

> Duma (meaning cheetah: 5 x 50), in a box of 25 for $93.75;

> Kiboko (hippopotamus: 6 1/2 x 58), 25 for $109.95;

> Punda Milia (zebra: 6 1/2 x 44), 25 for $89.95, and

> Tembo (elephant:7 1/2 x 50), 25 for $104.95.

Cigars International:
While not writing some of the funniest cigar copy on the planet (example of a description of one line bought as a close-out: “This brand sank faster than a clown in a dunk booth”), Keith Meier and the boys found:

• Te-Amo Cabinet, the best from Mexico, on sale in two sizes:

> Belicoso (6 1/8 x 52), with maduro wrappers in the box of 20 for $59.95, best in our review, and

> Double Corona (7 x 54), in natural or maduro, in a box of 20, also for $59.95.

Famous Smoke Shop:
Not as many specials as some weeks, but Famous also has two great specials on Tabacalera A. Fuente products:

• Arturo Fuente Hemingway Series, one of the finest cigars made anywhere, offered in a unique sampler called the “Great Hemingway 6-Pack.” If you haven’t tried Hemingways, this is your best chance.

For $34.80, you get six cigars in all, with two each of the three best sizes: the Classic (7 x 48), the Signature (6 x 47) and the famed Short Story (4 x 48). A great special for anyone who loves these great cigars.

• C.A.O. Brazilia Gol! (5 x 56) is on sale at the lowest prices in our survey at $79.95 for a box of 20, $5.00 off Famous’s regular price.

• The Cuesta-Rey CentroFino Sungrown Humidor, also from the Tabacalera A. Fuente, is on sale for $275.95, down from the suggested retail price of $492.25.

The box itself is elegant, but also holds 51 superb Cuesta-Rey CentroFino Sungrown cigars in five shapes; these are easily the best of the Cuesta-Rey line.

• Quintero, Altadis U.S.A.’s new brand from Honduras, introduced at the recent Retail Tobacco Dealers of America (RTDA) show:

> Belicoso (6 1/8 x 52), in the box of 20 for $89.95;

> Churchill (7 1/4 x 54), 20 for $89.95;

> Corona (5 5/8 x 45), 20 for $67.95;

> Robusto (5 x 50), 20 for $71.95, and

> Toro (6 x 50), 20 for $80.95.

Mike’s Cigars:
Mike’s is one of the first to offer the new Don Diego Torpedo (6 1/2 x 53), presented in a box of 25 for a nice price at $97.50, lowest in our review.

And the winner is:
