Los Angeles, June 28 – I love accessories. They are just as fun as the cigars . . . and they last longer. One item has held my attention for more than a year before I gave in.
It’s the Mollino ashtray from OneOff Cigars. Created by Adriano Design of Milan and made by the Italian design firm of Acconero for OneOff’s frenetic owner, A.G. Molinari, it’s sleek, daring and completely unconventional. It’s easily most unique ashtray I have ever seen.
Although it looks like a leather pocket protector, the Mollino ashtray itself slides out of a protective Italian-leather sleeve. It’s a brilliantly-polished plate of stainless steel which is thin enough to bend gently to hold a crossbar that rotates from behind the cigar holder. The assembly sits elegantly, perfectly balanced on the two stiched lines on the top of the leather case.
At just four inches wide, six inches deep and barely a quarter-inch wide, it fits easily into a jacket pocket. Anytime I pull it out, it’s instantly the main conversation piece. For that alone, it’s worth its $100 retail price.
There’s a choice of three colors: a light, natural leather, a deep, matte black and a sensuous red. The red is easily the best choice, but I bought all three. How many things in life make you smile just by thinking about them?
The Mollino is carried by selected tobacconists nationwide, but isn’t always easy to find; you can call OneOff’s U.S. office in Boston to find out who carries it at (978) 283-9577. To hold one in your hand is to be amazed. ~ Rich Perelman
